Qualifying law degrees
ILEX operates a blanket exemption policy where
a qualifying law degree (as recognised by the Solicitors Regulation
Authority, the successors to the Law Society in England and Wales
on regulatory matters), has been obtained within the last seven
years. To achieve the ILEX Professional Qualification in Law, such
graduates only need to study the legal practice elements of the
syllabus, as follows:
|
Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law (Mixed
Assessment Route):
|
Portfolio of evidence Final exam
|
Six pre-seen case studies
|
|
Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law:
|

|
Law (Examination Route):

|
Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law:
|

|

Blanket exemptions are also available for
those who have obtained the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Bar
Vocational Course (BVC). These applicants do not have to take the
ILEX Professional Qualification exam, but can apply immediately to
become a Member of ILEX and use the designatory letters
“M.Inst.L.Ex.”. Exemption fees will be payable in addition to
Membership fees.
General degree exemptions
Non-qualifying law degrees or degrees that have sufficient legal
content will be assessed on a subject by subject basis. A full
syllabus transcript must be provided with the application to ILEX
so that the contents of the qualification can be mapped against the
appropriate ILEX unit.
Exemptions may be granted for other appropriate qualifications.
Entitlement to exemptions is entirely at the discretion of ILEX.
Any application for exemption must be made in writing to the
ILEX Awards department.
