Membership Grades
During the course of your studies you will be registered as an
ILEX Student. Once you have gained your academic qualification you
will become a Member of ILEX.
Qualified Members are those trainees who have completed the ILEX
Professional Qualification in Law, but have not yet completed the
required period of legal experience. They are eligible to use the
designatory letters “M.Inst.L.Ex.”.
ILEX Members have either passed, or are exempt from, the ILEX
Professional Qualification in Law, which is made up of two stages
of training – the ILEX Level 3
Professional Diploma in Law and Practice and the ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in
Law.
When you have successfully completed the period of qualifying
employment, you will become a Fellow of ILEX, and eligible to use
the term ‘Legal Executive’ and the designatory letters
“F.Inst.L.Ex.”.
To be admitted as a Fellow it is necessary to have passed the
ILEX Professional Qualification in Law, or been exempted from it;
completed a minimum of five years employment experience in legal
work, including at least two consecutive years of experience which
falls after completion of the ILEX Professional Qualification in
Law; and satisfied the Council of ILEX as to fitness for
admission.
