Level 3 Student Information
ILEX launches the following Level 3 qualifications in
September 2008:
- ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice
- ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice
(new Level 3 Legal Executive stage).
All new students starting courses with ILEX
accredited providers from September 2008 must take these new
qualifications.

The Qualifications
Handbook for these qualifications will tell you all you need to
know about the new qualifications in a structured and detailed way.

To help support students and centres through the process of
introducing these new qualifications, ILEX has also put together

ILEX transitional arrangements – a detailed explanation of how
to complete your existing ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law
(both examination and MAR routes) if you do not finish before the
last examination session in Oct 2009.

arrangements – a detailed guide to the full range of main
qualification exemptions available against the new Level 3
qualification units in 2008/09.
2008/09 Dual Running
schedule – this document aims to assist all Level 3
centres co-ordinate their planning for ILEX processes in the
new academic year. Many ILEX centres will have students both
embarking on programmes of learning on the new Level 3
qualifications, whilst, at the same time, completing subjects on
the existing ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law. This
document will assist both Examinations Officers and tutors in
understanding ILEX’s administrative requirements for this upcoming
academic year.

ILEX’s existing Level 3
Professional qualification
The old Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law
will still be available for study during the academic year
2008/2009, but will be withdrawn after a final examination
session in October 2009. New students should not be
starting studying towards this qualification beyond September
2008. For REFERENCE ONLY for those who are
completing their ILEX qualification under this route, the
course details are listed below.
Mixed
Assessment Route:
This route comprises seven units, including
the construction of a portfolio of evidence, six pre-seen case
studies and an end of course examination. Course content is as
follows:

Assessment: Unit 1 is assessed by completion
of a portfolio. Units 2-7 are assessed by six pre-seen case
studies. At the end of the course there is a written three-hour
examination.
Examination Route:
The English Legal System and essential
elements of law and practice are covered in four courses: Law 1,
Practice 1, Law 2 and Practice 2. The syllabus is as shown

Assessment: Both Law 1 and Law 2
examination papers are assessed by one three-hour examination. The
practice examination papers are assessed by four separate two-hour
examinations.

courses, but are also available as standalone products to non-ITC
