Training for non-lawyers
In conjunction with City and Guilds, ILEX
offers an extensive range of qualifications for those in roles
where knowledge of the law is needed. These qualifications can also
provide you with the opportunity to transfer to the Legal Executive
route to become a qualified lawyer.
Many of our Legal Executive members started
off as legal secretaries or paralegal staff and went on to
develop a full career as a lawyer by qualifying through ILEX.
However legal secretaries and paralegals enjoy fulfilling careers
in their own right. So whatever your ambitions, why not choose from
our range of respected qualifications to join the legal
community?
If you wish to train as a
qualified legal secretary or legal support staff member
(paralegal), then we have the qualification for you. Together ILEX
and City & Guilds offer the law sector’s leading qualifications
for legal secretaries and paralegals available for study through
over 100 approved City & Guilds centres nationwide.
Reflecting the National
Occupational Standards in Administration, the programmes are now
considered the benchmark for those aspiring to or working in a
legal environment as secretaries or personal assistants. The
programmes are designed to establish a national standard for those
working in a legal environment. They offer a flexible route with no
entry requirements (although a Grade C or above in English Language
GCSE is desirable) and are assessed by task based assignments.
Specially produced course books
are available, and the
City & Guilds/ILEX Level 2 Certificate in Vocational Paralegal
Studies can be used as part of your entry criteria to study as
a Legal Executive with ILEX.
City & Guilds approved
centres are available nationwide. To
find your nearest centre, simply contact your regional City &
Guilds office (details on http://www.cityandguilds.com)
