Advantages for Employers
Training to become a Legal Executive has advantages
over the solicitor’s route to qualification, for both the
individuals and for the firms they work for.
The ILEX route to qualification as a a lawyer enables
individuals to “earn as they learn”, often having their own case
loads, and to earn fee income for their employers. This is
attractive to firms, as they do not have to contend with the
administrative regulations laid down by the Law Society for trainee
solicitors.
It allows firms to recruit specialist trainee lawyers who
will earn an income for them straight away. This is why the adverts
for legal executives’ jobs have multiplied in recent years.
Legal Executives fill pivotal posts in a variety of
organisations, not just legal firms. For example, this year's
graduation ceremony was attended by newly qualified Legal Executive
employees from organisations such as Disney ABC International
Television; HSBC Insurance UK Ltd; AXA UK PLC; Capita
Life & Pensions Services Ltd; Ministry of Defence; Kent County
Council; Plymouth City Council; Rentokil Initial PLC;
RSPCA; and The Peabody Trust.
